Something Funny Happened on the Way to the DS Fest: Part One

by beverlylacroix

This round robin was written by members of the Barnabas-Quentin Onelist who were unable to attend the 1999 Dark Shadows Fest in New York.

Disembarking from the crop-spraying plane, in what she thought was New York City, Beverly looked around at the two small buildings, and said, "This is the JFK Airport, hmm." Boy are these people backward, thinking about the LAX nightmare she had left supposedly three hours ago, but it seemed like days. She had been bumped off in someplace in Idaho, thrown on a rickety old school bus, ended up in Vegas, and finally after getting off the train that looked like a reject from Petticoat Junction, was finally plunked on that crop-spraying plane, praying some one had secured any insecticide on board. Any other time, she would have raised hell, but she had to get to the DS Festival in New York City, and nothing could get in the way of that. A flash of reality hit her for a moment, thinking why am I so hell-bent on this Festival, I've already been to one in L.A., and got to see David Selby, it was no BFD. Now, if it had been Jonathan Frid, then it would be understandable. Losing herself in a daydream of the introduction of the Icon, that was god to her, a voice with a southern drawl shook her out of her daydream.

"Do y'all know how to get to the Dark Shadows Festival?" Cheri asked excitedly.

Beverly just looked at her like she was from outta space, a look effected in L.A., when working in the federal court, to show no emotion. But to Cheri it just looked moronic.

Finally Beverly answered her with, "oh, yeah, that's where I'm going. Let's get a cab."

Then a lady who introduced herself as Christine walked up, and they all started to look for a cab, and that's when they noticed this did not look like the New York City that was in books, flashed on T.V., the Internet, everywhere.

"Well, let's go find out for certain where we are, Christine said.

"Good idea," Cheri and Beverly chorused.

Finally finding some guy half asleep, they asked, and was confounded at the answer, but before they got a chance to say anything, someone with an awfully familiar voice came up behind them, and said, "this way, ladies."

They all three looked around, and gasped in horror, then surprise, then euphoria. It was Willie Loomis, and where Willie Loomis was, Barnabas Collins was, and where Barnabas was, Quentin Collins could be found. Asking no questions, they entered the limo, and Willie said he had to hurry, cuz he'd probably have to come back and pick up some more people. The three ladies said nothing, afraid if they spoke they'd wake up, and it would just be a dream.

Willie was used to the reaction, it always happened this way. He just hoped Barnabas wouldn't do what he did last year, bloody, he thought with a shudder, remembering how long it took him to clean up the drawingroom.
