Something Funny Happened on the Way to the DS Fest: Part Three

by ?

This round robin was written by members of the Barnabas-Quentin Onelist who were unable to attend the 1999 Dark Shadows Fest in New York. If anyone would like to claim this segment, please e-mail me!

Willie stared straight out the limo windshield focusing as straight ahead as he could to avoid eye contact with the three women he was transporting to certain doom.

"I'm takin' ya to see Barnabas Collins. That's what ya asked me to do ain't it?" Willie snapped.

Cheri, looked at Chris, and she looked at Bev who by now was in a sheer state of ecstasy. In a soft and almost unaudible tone she said, "Barnabas Collins."

Cheri and Chris simply shook their heads knowing full well what was going through their companion's head! However, this little gesture did not go unnoticed by the suddenly very somber and quiet driver. Willie sat puzzled at the reaction his mention of his "boss" the master of Collinwood. He had seen many reactions from women who met Barnabas, but dreamy was not what he had usually seen. Mesmerized perhaps, entranced yes, but dreamy, hmmm this was one very puzzling woman!

Cheri was not quite so entranced. She began to become very alarmed at the turn this what should have been pleasure trip was taking. She had absolutely no idea where they were much less where they were going. The idea that this man who had the resemblence of Willie Loomis could be in fact THE Willie Loomis was absurd! And if it were true that they were indeed headed to meet Barnabas Collins, oh why had she left her cross necklace at home!

"Chris do you have any idea where we are?" Cherri said in a worried tone.

"I don't believe it! It can't be!" was the response from Chris. She pointed out the window to the large mansion rising above the hills in front of the road. It looked so familiar.

Chris gasped and said, "No! How is this possible? It can't be. That looks a lot like----"

From the seat near the window came a soft, dreamy voice, "Collinwood." Bev was so entranced that the other girls were really beginning to worry. Even tho they really did not know Bev well, they could see from the beginning that she seemed to be in some kind of illusional state.

The limo soon pulled up to the circle drive and to the front door. Willie got out and opened the door for the three women in a courtly manner. "This is the end of the road, I mean, welcome to Collinwood."

All three women disembarked and walked to the ornate front door of the large mansion. It was even larger than it looked on TV. Chris and Cherri looked at each other with a bit of alarm. It was a given that both ladies knew something was very wrong here. They were most definately NOT in New York, and they most certainly were not in 1999! But, even though this looked like the Collinwood mansion from the TV show DS, it couldn't be.

Bev on the other hand just simply walked up to the door and knocked before the other women had a chance to pull her back. After a few moments a servant answered the door and let the three women in. They walked slowly into the foyer and gazed around them until their eyes fell on the large portrait that they had seen so often. Barnabas Collins himself staring right at them. And yet, there was something eerie about that picture. Bev was somehow drawn towards the portrait and couldn't take her eyes off it.

Emerging from the drawing room was a small, petite woman with curly brown hair and large brown eyes. She smiled and said, "At last. People dressed in familiar clothing! My name is Susie."

Chris and Cherri moved closer to this small woman and introduced themselves. "We were headed to the DS Fest and somehow I think we took a wrong turn."

Suddenly a male voice spoke, "A wrong turn?"

All four women looked up at the top of the stairs and their mouths opened wide with disbelief and shock. For standing on the top stair was none other than the Master of Collinwood, Barnabas Collins in the flesh and alive! Or was he?"
